High on the list of the great riches of the Brazilian northeast are its beaches. On the way out of Salvador every place offers an opportunity to walk and enjoy the sea, the long beaches, the fresh breeze, and all of the opportunities these present. Here a brief commentary on each site.
Praia do Forte: cerca de Salvador y dentro del estado de Bahía encontramos esta pequeña villa, que mas que un lugar costero parece un gran centro comercial al aire libre, tiendas y más tienes lindas en general y algunos restaurantes sirven de escenario para toda las personas que visitan sus posadas, hoteles y demás formas de alojamiento. Allí se encuentra una de las sedes del proyecto Tamar para la protección de 5 especies de tortugas marinas, que cuenta con instalaciones de acceso impresionantes y un centro de visitantes más bien limitado, además tienen algunas tortugas en cautiverio y a pesar de haber preguntado no es muy clara la razón.
Praia do Forte: near Salvador and in the state of Bahía one finds this small village, which is less of a beach village and more of a shopping centre in the open air, shops and other attractions, along with restaurants and cafes setting the stage for hose staying in the multiple hotels, pousadas, and other lodgings. Here is one of the head offices of the Tamar Project, which is protecting five species of marine turtle, and which has impressive publicity on the access roads, and a less impressive visitor centre, along with a few captive turtles, the reason for retaining which was not clear despite enquiry.
Aracajú, capital de Sergipe es una ciudad grande como todas las de la región, con muy buena infraestructura y que se siente muy orgullosa de la buena calidad de vida que ofrece. Es una ciudad para moverse en carro, dado que todo queda lejos de todo y cuenta con playas extensas y muy bien referenciadas. En ruta a esta ciudad, fue evidente la producción industrial de coco y pensar en los volúmenes de esta industria nos pareció un tema interesante, teniendo en cuenta el alto consumo de coco verde y procesado en el país, un nuevo campo de interés o mejor una nueva conciencia de ignorancia. También nos dimos una vuelta por Laranjeira, la joya colonial del estado, de joya poco pero las mujeres del centro artesanal fueron encantadoras.
Aracajú, capital of Sergipe, is a large city like all those in the region, with very good infrastructure and which is proud of the high quality of life it offers. It is a city to be travelled by car, given that intracity distances are large, beaches extensive and, road signs good. On the way to the city the production of coconut was evident; thinking through the volumes produced and the distribution system needed preoved interesting, given the high consumption of the coconuts in the country – a new subject of study, or perhaps simply new evidence of our ignorance. In addition we took a route via Laranjeiras, the “colonial jewel” of the state; not very jewel-like, however the ladies in the artesan centre were enchanting.
Penedo, este es un pueblo colonial a Orillas del Río Sao Francisco, esta ciudad cuenta con un centro colonial extenso y en recuperación y los habitantes se siente orgullosos de haber sido un sitio de paso imperial. Llegamos y salimos de Penedo bajo la lluvia pero sin duda el paisaje del río en días de sol debe ser grandioso. Continuamente hay viajes en ferry que conectan a la ciudad con Neópolis en la otra orilla.
Penedo: is a colonial town on the banks of the river Sao Francisco, which has an extensive colonial centre being renovated, and whose denizens are proud of having been an important place in imperial times. We arrived and left Penedo in rain, however the river crossing must be attractive in the sun. (there are continuous ferry crossings to Neópolis on the opposite shore).
Al día siguiente en la ruta a Maceió, visitamos Piaçabuçu un poblado costero con playas extensas que sirven de calles para la población, todo circula por allí, carros, camiones, bicicletas, motos, caballos y también, lastimosamente allí llegan y se quedan todos los desperdicios del mar. Mucho de la playa está invadido por plásticos, redes, cajas y todas las cosas que alguna vez a alguien se le ocurrió que no se notarian en el mar.
The following day on the way to Maceió, we visited Piaçabuçu, a coastal village with extensive beach, which serves as the principal thoroughfare; all traffic passes via the beach: cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, horses, and unfortunately when one passes along the beach one sees all of the trash of the sea. Much of the beach is covered with plastic, netting, boxes, and all of those things which one day we will learn should not be discarded in the sea.
Maceió, tal como Aracajú una ciudad moderna, enfocada en la playa y capital del estado de Alagoas. Las Playas están para la gente, son limpias, tranquilas, por la costera a lo largo de todas las playas, lo que resulta muy atractivo al atardecer cuando el viento fresco reduce la temperatura. Al frente de las playas de Maceió los arrecifes formas piscinas naturales que son las usadas por la población para disfrutar el mar. Allí se usan pequeñas embarcaciones a vela para llegar a los sitios y disfrutar el entorno.
Maceió, like Aracaju a modern city, focussed on the beach, and capital of Alagoas state. The beaches are for the people: clean, tranquil, along all of the beachfront, resulting in pleasant evenings strolling in the breeze along the seafront when the temperatura drops. Offshore the beaches the reefs create natural pools which are used to enjoy the sea. Small boats are used to head out to these pools for enjoyment.
Porto de Galinhas y Maracaípe. Cuenta la leyenda que después de la abolición de la esclavitud en este lugar llegaban barcos con esclavos. Para poder comercializarlos informaban sobre la llegadas de gallinas a muy buen precio y así se lograba la venta… pero esto es solo un mito porque el lugar se llamaba así mucho antes de la abolición de la esclavitud. Esta considerada una de las playas más lindas de Brasil es un destino dedicado a la adoración de las gallinas, todos tiene una en algún lugar de su negocio. Lo que más hay en este lugar son negocios, incluyendo los hoteles,. Igual que en Maceió gozan de piscinas naturales al frente de la costa.
Porto de Galinhas y Maracaípe. The store goes that after slavery was abolished there continued to arrive slaveships. To offer the slaves for sale the captains offered “chickens at a good price”, hence the port became known as the Port of Chickens. This is apparently just a store since the port was so known long before the abolition of slavery. The place is considered to have some of the best beaches in Brazil, and is a destination dedicated to the commercial (tourist-based) worship of the chicken in all forms. What is most prominent is business, including hotels. In the same way as in Maceió there are offshore natural pools to enjoy.
Maracaípe es una playa más al sur famosa por su olas y al parecer el paraíso de los practicantes de surf. Llegamos allí en la noche y el poblado es un lugar tranquilo de callejones estrechos y algunas posadas frente al mar. En entorno es hermoso, el sonido del mar y la brisan llenan el espacio de tranquilidad, lastimosamente el aire acondicionado del hotel fue insoportable.
Maracaípe is a beach village further south famous for its surf and apparently a surfers’ paradise. We arrived at dusk to find a small village of narrow streets and beachfront pousadas. The setting is beautiful, the sound of the sea and the breeze fill the night with tranquillity, unfortunately the noise of the pousada’s air conditioning was insupportable.
Salimos de allí hacia Olinda y Recife, en el camino los cultivos de caña se hicieron presentes y predominaron durante gran parte del viaje.
We left for Olinda and Recife, on the road the cultivation of sugar cane prominent most of the way.

I love the idea of visiting the natural pools by boat.... not so sure about a place devoted to chicken worship.
