New!!!! ¡Que vivan los lobos marinos! / Valdivia, where the sea lions live!

La ruta a Valdivia, fue nuevamente entre arboles madereros y por la imperdible ruta 5. Al tomar la salida hacia la ciudad, ríos y pequeños lagos hicieron su aparición, con la subsecuente presencia de aves en algunas zonas húmedas y recordándonos que estábamos en la Región de los Ríos.

The route to Valdivia: once again through lumber forests via the unmissable route 5. On leaving the city, rivers and small lakes appeared, with the resulting presence of birds in the wetlands, and we were reminded that we were in the ¨Region of Rivers¨.

En Valdivia tomamos la costanera para buscar hotel y disfrutar el paisaje del atardecer. Llegamos al puerto y decidimos bajar de carro para tomar algunas fotos, buscando algo bello por fotografiar, nuestros ojos detectaron la presencia de organismos grandes con bigotes: ahí estaban los tan ansiados leones marinos en libertad, durmiendo al lado de la vereda peatonal de la costanera, con un anuncio discreto que dice: animales mordedores no los moleste. ¿No les parece fascinante?

In Valdivia we took the coast road to look for a hotel and enjoy the sunset. We arrived at the port and decided to get out of the car to take some photos. Seeking something to photograph, our eyes encountered the presence of large organisms with moustaches: here were the long-awaited sea lions at liberty, sleeping alongside the riverwalk, with a discreet notice saying "these animals bite - do not disturb!¨. How fascinating!

Como comprenderán dedicamos un muy bien rato a tomar fotografías y a disfrutar las diferentes partes de la anatomía de estos animales. Una vez logró Alan arrastrarme de allí, fue posible encontrar Hotel y comenzar oficialmente nuestra exploración.

As you can understand we took some time to take photos and enjoy the sight of the anatomy of these animals. Once I had dragged Marce away, it was possible to find a hotel and start our exploration officially.

Cuando pensamos en Valdivia, además de los leones, cuatro cosas llegan a la mente: Una el festival internacional de cine, fue una coincidencia perfecta! El día en que llegamos inauguraron la versión 17 del mismo, además de conseguir credenciales pudimos asistir a tres funciones del concurso de largometraje internacional y gozamos viendo algo diferente, no pudimos ver más porque en todas las funciones que seleccionamos el público deseoso de ver fue superior al número de sillas disponibles en la sala.

When we think of Valdivia, other than the sea lions, four things come to mind: one is the International Cine Festival, which was a perfect coincidence! The day we arrived, once we had obtained our credentials, we took in three entries in the international film category, enjoying something different; we couldn´t do more since the demand for the other movies in which we were interested was greater than the number of seats available.

El segundo recuerdo corresponde a los fuertes de Niebla y Corral y la belleza de la ruta costanera. En el estuario del Rio Valdivia, los españoles construyeron 16 fortalezas para defender de la zona del asalto de los piratas, se conservan cuatro dos en Corral, una en Niebla y una en la Isla Mancera, además de conocer los sitios y la historia fue deliciosos disfrutar la conversación con el dueño del Ferry en el puerto y atender la explicación que nos dio el pirata en el Castillo de Nuestra Señora la Pura y Limpia Concepción de Monfort de Lemus de Niebla, (¡Increíbe que nos acordemos de semejante nombre!), además de jugar con su personaje. Recorrimos parte de la ruta de selva Valdiviana y pudimos gozar el paisaje, lastima que escogimos la reserva incorrecta porque cuando llegamos estaba cerrada o mejor abandonada.

The second recollection is the forts at Niebla and Corral, and the beauty of the coastal route. In the estuary of the river Valdivia the Spanish built 16 forts to protect the area from pirates. Four still exist, in various stages of repair: two in Corral, one in Niebla, and one on the island of Mancera. In addition to visiting two of these, it was enjoyable to converse with the Captain of one of the ferries we took, and to hear the explanations of the pirate we met at the fort in Niebla (Nuestra Señora la Pura y Limpia Concepción de Monfort de Lemus de Niebla - we are impressed that we recall the full name!). We also travelled part of the Valdivian Forest Route and enjoyed the scenery, unfortunately we chose the wrong reserve to visit because when we arrived it was closed (or more accurately, abandoned).

El tercer punto de importancia esta representado por el Festival de la Cerveza Artesanal, al día siguiente de nuestra llegada inauguraron este festiva, así que asistimos gustosos: después de probar los 8 tipos de cervezas oscura disponible, gano la Bundor. Y salimos casi ebrios, pero solo casi.

The third point of importance is represented by the Artesanal Beer Festival; the day after our arrival this was opened, and hence we attended to enjoy it: after sampling 8 types of dark beer our chosen winner was Bundor. So we left slightly inebriated, but only slightly.

Por último, un lugar maravilloso de Valdivia y que no depende de la suerte es el mercado del puerto. En este lugar a demás de conseguir verduras, pescados y mariscos frescos, resulta grandioso el conjunto de animales que participan y se deleitan con las labores de limpieza del pescado: pelícanos, cormorales, gaviotas de varios tipos y los fantásticos Leones Marinos!!!

Fue grandiosos ir todos los días a verlos.

Finally, a marvellous place in Valdivia, which doesn´t depend on luck, is the port market. Here, in addition to being able to buy vegetables, fish, and fresh seafood, the variety of wildlife taking advantage of the fish cleaning process is huge: pelicans, cormorants, various gulls, and the fantastic sea lions! It was great to see, and we went every day to see the show.
