Viña del Mar, una historial al revéz / a story in reverse.

Decidimos escribir esta historia hacia atrás y no es muy claro por qué, quizás para dejar en la mente de todos lo mejor del día o para honrar un momento muy apreciado o ambas o ninguna de las anteriores, en todo caso la historia es así:

We decided to write this story in reverse, and it's not clear why, perhaps to leave in everyone's mind the best of the day, or to honour a highly appreciated moment, or both, or neither of the above, in any event the story is as follows:

Estaba dura y en esa dureza los músculos se entregaban lentamente, dejando salir ese pequeño dolor que surge cuando por fin sueltas, la delicia del placer ocupaba lentamente el cuerpo y la noche se empezaba abrir en posibilidades, había cama para dormir.

It was hard, and on this hardness the muscles relaxed slowly, releasing the twinge which arises once they are finally at rest, a delicious pleasure slowly filling the body, and the night opening up possibilities, we had a bed in which to sleep!

Antes de estar en esta posición, había tenido lugar una cortante conversación con la dueña del hotel luego que me informó que la habitación comprometida había sido vendida y en tal sentido podía ofrecerme otra, esto no podía estar ocurriendo después de haber buscado en todos los hoteles del lugar un espacio para dormir.

Prior to being in this situation, a short conversation had taken place with the owner of the hotel, who had informed Marce that our promised room had been taken, however she could offer another. This taking place after having sought unsuccessfully in every hotel in town a place to sleep.

Aún había luz cuando iniciamos la búsqueda y ya había pasado hora y media con la misma actividad:

1. Buenas noches, ¿cómo está usted? R/ Bien, ¿Qué necesita?

2. Tendría disponible una habitación matrimonial por tres noches? R/ NOoooooooooo, estamos llenos, no hizo reserva? (Conversación mental: Si la hubiera hecho no estaría preguntando por una habitación, estaría en un cuarto)

3. No! No tengo reserva. R/ Hay que hacer reserva!

4. OK, gracias. R/ Espere un momento …….. (conversación mental: bueno a pesar del comentario me va a ayudar con algo, que amable) …. Tenga una tarjeta para que haga reserva la próxima vez.

5. OH! Graaaaaaaaaaaaaaacias. (Por respeto al público preferimos no relatar la conversación mental en este caso)

Hubo algunas excepciones, por ejemplo un hotel con letrero que dice: No hay habitaciones; otro que llamó a varios hoteles para verificar que no había habitaciones, estos realmente amables.

It was still light when we started looking for a hotel, and it was now an hour and a half later continuing the search:

1. Good evening, how are you doing? A: Fine, what can I do for you?

2. Do you have a double room available for three nights? A: NOoooooooooo, we are full, do you have a reservation? (Mental response: If we had made a reservation we would not be asking for a room, we would be in one).

3. No, we don't have a reservation. A: You have to have a reservation!

4. OK, thank you. A: Wait a moment (mental response: Oh good, despite my misgivings they are going to offer a suggestion, how helpful)... Here is a card so that you can make a reservation next time.

5. Oh! Thanks so much.... (Out of respect for our public we prefer not to publish the mental response in this case).

There were exceptions, for example the hotel with a sign outside saying "we have no rooms"; another which called several other hotels to verify that they had no rooms, this one really friendly.

Habíamos llegado a la ciudad por la gloriosa ruta cinco y sus instalaciones de descanso en las estaciones de servicio de Copec. Esta se conecta con la Autopista troncal del sur, una vía en excelente estado que nos sorprendió, dada la calidad de la misma ruta en dirección este. Pero antes de tomar la 5 por 300 Km habíamos tenido el placer de ir la Reserva Natural Fray Jorge.

We had arrived in the city via the glorious route 5, and its rest stops at the COPEC gas stations. This then connected to the trunk highway south, an excellent road which surprised us, given the state of the same route eastwards. However prior to driving 300 Km south along route 5, we had the pleasure to visit the Fray Jorge Nature Reserve.

Tomamos una pequeña ruta local que se indicaba a un costado de la autopista por 27 km de carretera destapada muy divertida: superficie mejorada, con pocas calaminas, transitable sin problema a 70 Km por hora, trazado sinuoso con pendientes y ascensos, en un entorno semidesértico. Y luego 10 Km más dentro del Parque, por una ruta más tortuosa e inclinada para llegar al bosque de la reserva. Al lado del mar y que ha podido crecer por los vientos del oeste que permiten que la niebla se acumulen en la pared del cerro y genere la humedad apropiada para el ecosistema. Caminamos por el sendero establecido y nos divertimos con el silencio, la tranquilidad, el ambiente del lugar, las pequeñas flores y el almuerzo que improvisamos para acompañar el paseo.

We took a small local road which was indicated at the exit from the highway, 27 Km of highly enjoyable unsurfaced road, hardly any corrugations, passable with no problem at 70 Km/h, winding smoothly with ups and downs through semidesert scenery. Then 10 Km more inside the reserve, a road more tortuous and with steep ascents, to arrive at the cloud forest. Adjacent to the coast, with the westerly winds assuring a constant mist on the western slope of the hills, generating a damp microclimate appropriate to the ecosystem. We walked via an established trail and enjoyed the silence, the tranquillity, the ambiance of the place, with small flowers and an improvised lunch to accompany us.

Habíamos dejado La Serena después de la visita a la oficina de correos y de encontrar algunas estampillas para nuestra correspondencia.

We had left La Serena after visiting the post office and obtaining various stamps for our correspondence.
