Now in English: Here comes the sun... / Muchas veces después de la lluvia sale el sol....

Después de muchos días fuera de la ruta, volveríamos a tomar el volante, el nororiente Argentino y Uruguay nuestros próximos destinos. El plan para el día era llegar a Victoria y al día siguiente a Mercedes Uruguay. Las expectativas: salir de la ciudad, tomar una ruta amplia, ver el paisaje, disfrutar la luz de la mañana soleada y disfrutar otro aire por 5 horas en la ruta, con una estación en Rosario para explorar. La revisión pre ruta tomó más tiempo de lo esperado, era preciso revisar con atención y volver a acomodar el equipaje, el ambiente del parqueadero era pesado pero la emoción de salir daba el impulso suficiente.

After many days not "on the road", we took the wheel again to head northwards for the northeast of Argentina and Uruguay. The plan was to head for Victoria and then for Mercedes, Uruguay, the following day. Our expectation: leave the city, take an open road, enjoy the scenery and the morning sun, arriving in Victoria after 5 hours travel, with a stop in Rosario to explore. The pre-trip checks took more time than planned, we needed to do a full check and also "reload" luggage. The atmosphere in the garage was heavy however our desire to continue was sufficient inspiration to get going.

Ahora en el volante, tomamos la rampa del parqueadero y los hermosos arboles florecidos de la Plaza San Martín aliviaron el ambiente, todo indicaba que las expectativas se empezaban a cumplir. Pasados los primeros 5 minutos, gotas cayeron en el parabrisas y un pensamiento benigno se alegro con su presencia, el día era calurosos y un poco de frescura no caía mal, así la lluvia se sintió afirmada y sin ningún pudor se dejó venir con todo. Tres horas de lluvia fuerte y tormenta acompañaron la primera parte de la ruta, visibilidad mínima, camiones por doquier y ningún lugar seguro para parar… Cuándo la próxima YPF fue visible cambiamos de conductor y ya sin lluvia en 1 hora estábamos en Rosario. Decidimos quedarnos allí, la idea de la apreciación del paisaje amplio no había sido posible, la invitación ahora era a explorar.

Now at the wheel we ascended the ramp from the garage and the beautiful flowering trees of the plaza lightened the atmosphere, everything appeared to support the plan. After a few minutes drops of rain appeared on the windshield; how pleasant to have a refreshing shower cool the day. Our initial lightness of reaction to the shower was washed away during a three hour downpour as we headed north: dreadful visibility, trucks on all sides, nowhere to stop safely. When we saw the next YPF we changed drivers, whereupon the sun came out and an hour later we were in Rosario. We decided to stay there; enjoying the scenery having been impossible, the idea was now to explore the city.

Salimos del hotel y reconocimos la señales de la ciudades ribereñas: ropas específicas, arboledas, las huellas de la humedad en la cal de las paredes, y ese paso lento de todos los que ocupan las calles, producto de la mezcla retardante que se genera entre los abrazos inclementes del sol y el sudor en el cuerpo, que lentamente invade todas tus posiciones. Recorrimos los Iconos oficiales de la ciudad y llegamos a la Rambla, un lugar con varias curiosidades:

Leaving the hotel we recognised the signs of a river city: appropriate clothes, tree-lined streets, evidence of dampness in the walls, and the slow pace of people in the streets, resulting from the mixture of the impact of the sun and the dampness of the body which slowly invades all parts. We viewed the official icons of the city, and passed on to the Rambla, a place with various curiosities:

Pesca Urbana, llamamos así a dos formas de manifestación, una la representan el conjunto de personas que llegan al barrera de la rambla en su carro o moto, llenos de accesorios para pescar y pasar el rato cómodos mientras los peces hacen su trabajo de morder el anzuelo; otra, representada por jóvenes de menos recursos que utilizan cualquier método para capturar sus presas y exponen su vida bajo la estructura de concreto para rescatar lo pescado.

Urban fishing, in two forms: one being that in which citizens arrive in their cars laden with paraphernalia to relax by the river, drink mate, and enjoy the day, while the fish undertake their task of swallowing the bait; the second being that in which young men with limited resources apply their talent to the capture of fish by any means, including their exposure to the hazards below the concrete structure to recover fish.

Deportes en la tarde: muchas personas haciendo ejercicio o disfrutando las facilidades, lo que incluye chicos en sus bicicletas demostrando sus habilidades para hacer figuras con las mismas.

Afternoon sports: many people exercising, walking, running, or otherwise enjoying the facilities of the area, including kids on bikes showing off their acrobatic capabilities.

Historias ferroviarias: la rambla esta construida en la ruta del tren y utiliza su infraestructura actual para albergar diferentes organizaciones y propuestas. Los edificios se conservan más o menos intactos y es posible apreciar la forma de la construcción, hay cafés, mercados, restaurantes y otras expresiones de la cultura.

Railway stories: the esplanade is built on the old railway and uses its infrastructure to house various organisations and activities. The buildings are conserved more or less originally and it's possible to appreciate their construction. There are cafes, markets, restaurants, and other cultural expressions.

La isla de los inventos: un lugar perfecto! Un espacio dedicado a la palabra y la acción humana. Un lugar de creación y recreación, que libera el espíritu. Un lugar que para visitar, para permanecer y para cuidar el alma.

The Island of Invention: a perfect place! A space dedicated to the human word and action. A place of creation and recreation, freeing the spirit. A place to visit, to spend time, and care for the soul.

La murga: en la noche, encontramos este espectáculo, una Murga Uruguaya enfocada en Rosario y su Cultura, interpretada por La Cotorra, además de divertida, era el abrebocas perfecto para nuestro siguiente día rumbo a Uruguay.

The "Murga": in the evening we encountered this spectacle, a Uruguyan "Musical Theatre", focussed on Rosario and its culture, interpreted via the group "La Cotorra". As well as being entertaining, it was the perfect hors d'oeuvre for our entry to Uruguay the following day.
