De milagro en la celebración de la Virgen del Milagro en Salta / A miraculous arrival on the celebration of the Virgen del Milagro in Salta .

Llegamos en medio de muchas peregrinaciones, personas a pie, en bici, en caravanas todas en función de la virgen de Salta. En la estación de servicio la pregunta obligada: vienen por la virgen? La respuesta honesta: No, el comentario correspondiente: que afortunados, esta es la celebración más importante de Salta, tenga una estampita del Señor y la Virgen para que lleven de recuerdo, la respuesta que corresponde: muchas gracias!.

We arrived in the midst of many pilgrims on their way to Salta: on foot, on bicycle, in groups, all for the Virgin of Salta. In the service station the obligatory question "Did we come for the Virgin?". The honest reply "No". The response "How fortunate you are; it's the most importance celebration in Salta, have a stamp for the Lord and the Virgin so that you have a souvenir." Our reply: "Thanks a lot."

Así comenzó nuestra llegada a Salta. Los hoteles llenos y las calles llenas, mucha actividad, solo tienen disponibilidad por una noche, nada que hacer, así que relajarnos y disfrutar. Salta parece un lugar muy prometedor, sitios ricos para comer, al menos tres museos para visitar y una arquitectura aunque predominantemente republicana con algunas edificiaciones coloniales por visitar.

So began our arrival in Salta. The hotels full and the streets packed, lots of activity, only room for one night, nothing could be done, so we relaxed to enjoy the city. Salta appears to be a very promising place, good places to eat, at least three museums to visit, and architecture predominantly replublican, with various colonial buildings to visit.

Disfrutamos nuestra noche con una buena cena, buena conversación y buena caminata en un clima fresco y benéfico. A pesar de querer dormir un poco más, nos levantamos animados a recorrer la ciudad y los sitios que ofrece. A las 9:30 estamos listos para salir y de pronto nos enteramos que era día festivo en la provincia por las fiestas de la virgen, salimos a la calle, todo parecía muy bien, un ambiente activo, algo invadido por las festividades, los cafes llenes, las tiendas abiertas, así que nos dirigimos al primer museo y allí todo cambió: los museos cerrados…todos…no es posible ver nada de lo elegido. Caminanos aquí y allá, vimos todo lo disponible, eran la 1 de la tarde y todo estaba cubierto.

We enjoyed our evening with a good dinner, good conversation, and a pleasant walk in the cool evening air. Unable to sleep longer, we arose to enjoy the attractions of the city. At 0930h we were ready to sally forth on this provincial holiday in celebration of the Virgin. On entering the streets all seemed well, lots of activity, albeit focussed on the celebration, cafes full, shops open, and so we headed for the first museum, when things changed: the museums were closed... all of them... it was impossible to see anything which we had planned. We walked here and there, saw what we could, and at 1300h we had covered everything available.

Después de una consulta popular entre Procesión y Caverna, decidimos irnos a la caverna, como le decía Saramago, a buscar cine y luego de deliveraciones muy fuertes: estabamos sentados en una sala de cine a las tres de la tarde viendo: “como perros y gatos II” y comiendo M&M. Luego caminamos de regreso al hotel y aquí estamos poniendo al día el blog, bajando las rutas del GPS y contándoles que salta esta muy interesante para volver luego, por ahora la virgen nos sabotió la visita.

After a referendum, to choose between Procession and Cavern (as writes Saramago), we chose the cavern to seek movies and after strong consideration, found ourselves at three in the afternoon watching "Cats and Dogs II", and eating M&Ms. Then we walked back to the hotel to catch up on the blog, download routes from the GPS, and telling ourselves that Salta was most interesting and that we should return; this time the VIrgin had sabotaged our visit.
