Tucumán is a place with two pulses: during the day it is a sleepy village, with nothing much happening; in the evening it wakes up and is thronged with people enjoying themselves.Tucumán es un lugar con dos pulsos: de día es un pueblo tranquilo, sin mucho que suceda; en la noche se despierta y se llena de gente divirtiéndose.
The Plaza is attractive, with trees and a variety of architecture, from colonial to recent (more recent than colonial). The principal focus of its history is the Casa de la Libertad, where the “founding fathers” of Argentina signed the declaration of independence in 1816. The Casa is well organised and presented, and well worth the visit.
La Plaza es atractiva, con árboles y una variedad de la arquitectura, desde la colonial hasta la reciente (más la reciente que la colonial). El foco principal de su historia es la Casa de la Libertad, donde los "padres fundadores" de la Argentina firmaron la declaración de independencia en 1816. La Casa está bien organizada y presentada, su visita es valiosa.
There are various parks and a museum of the sugar industry in the largest, which is interesting in that it was rescued from demolition and is now one of few surviving examples of the past which remain.
Hay varios parques y un museo de la industria azucarera en el parque mas grande, que es interesante, ya que la casa usada muestra la arquitectura rural y fue rescatada de la demolición y ahora es uno de los pocos ejemplos sobrevivientes del pasado.
On Sunday at midday, the Tucuman Symphonic Band played in the Plaza, to a mixed audience of passers-by. It appeared that they were enjoying themselves, and the interplay between the Conductor and the Master of Ceremonies was very amusing.
El domingo al mediodía, la Banda Sinfónica de Tucumán toco en la Plaza, a un público mixto de transeúntes. Parecía que se divertían, y la interacción entre el director y el maestro de ceremonias fue muy divertida.
To our surprise, in the evening the streets are full of people, out and about and enjoying themselves. The place is a hive of (guess what) activity. At midnight on Sunday evening, we were surprised, and enchanted, to come across a square (adjacent to the Casa de la Libertad) where people of all varieties dance traditional dances (Chacareraa), simply for their own pleasure, dressed in jeans or more formally, without any pretention.
Para nuestra sorpresa, en la noche las calles están llenas de gente que sale a disfrutar. El lugar es un hervidero de actividad. En la medianoche del domingo, nos sorprendió y encanto, encontrarnos en una plaza (adyacente a la Casa de la Libertad), donde personas de todo tipo se reunen a bailar danzas tradicionales (Chacareras), simplemente para su propio placer, vestidos con jeans o más formalmente, sin ninguna pretensión.
All in all, a place with a sense of identity, enjoying itself, and a pleasant place for a day or so.
En definitiva, un lugar con un sentido de identidad, disfrutando de sí mismo, y agradable para un día o dos.
