Having visited Chiclayo´s "Model Market" (the biggest market outside of the Khan al Khalili, as far as I know), we headed out of Chiclayo to Ferreñafe and its Museo de Sicán. This museum provides insight into the Lambayeque culture of 750-1375 AD, and specifically the discoveries since 1975 of various tombs with extensive artefacts of this culture. We decided to visit also the area of Batan Grande, further north, where the major discoveries were made, and were fortunate to find ourselves able to offer a ride home to Rafael, museum guide, who lived en route to the area and was happy to give us a personal tour of the site on the way.
The Batan Grande site, know as the Bosque de Pómac, is a protected area, and proved to be fascinating. It is an area of 12 pyramids, in various stages of erosion, since they are made of adobe bricks, however it is possible to appreciate the grandeur of these even so. The area was very tranquil, being invaded by only two tourists (ourselves), and is rich on birds.
So this is evidence against the statement "if you've seen one pyramid, you've seen 'em all"?
