Today was a long day in the desert (¡). Leaving the hotel in Trujillo at 0740h and arriving in the hotel in Lima at 1915h. The actual travel time, including a lunch stop, was about 8-1/2 hours. The rest of the time was spent negotiating the traffic at start and finish.Fue un largo día en el desierto. Dejamos el hotel en Trujillo a las 0740h y llegamos al Hotel en Lima a las 1915h. El tiempo efectivo de viaje fue de 8-1/2 horas incluyendo el tiempo de viaje, el tiempo restante fue gastado en negociaciones con el tráfico al principio y al final.
The route runs more or less parallel to the coast, coming close to it from time to time. The route is very dry, with frequent zones where sand dunes accumulate, and where sand is blowing across the road. Although challenging in terms of the constant wind and the distance, the traffic was not heavy, being mainly trucks and buses. Some of the latter operate on the basis that traffic in the other direction will give way if necessary, so present an additional risk on the route.
La ruta pasa mas o menos paralela a la costa, y se acerca a ella algunas veces. Es muy seca, con frecuentes zonas con dunas y algunos lugares en donde la arena pasa a través de la vía. Aunque es retadora en términos de vientos constantes y la distancia, el tráfico no es muy pesado, a pesar de ser principalmente de camiones y buses. Sin embargo, algunos buses operan sobre el supuesto que lo vehículos en la dirección contraria van a darle la prioridad y salir de la ruta si es requerido, este es un riesgo adicional.
The greenest part of the trip is shortly before arriving at the Lima conurbation: as you can see this level of green remains elusive.
