Un paseo por la riqueza Ayacuchana / The riches of Ayacucho

Ayacucho es una ciudad viva, en todo momento las calles estan ocupadas por personas dedicadas a disfrutar; en las dos noches en que estuvimos aqui hubo musica en vivo en la plaza de armas y los establecimientos comerciales estan abiertos.

Ayacucho is a lively city, there are always people out and about enjoying themselves. On both (holi)days we spent in Ayacucho there was live music in the Plaza in the evenings, and the stores were open all day.

Gracias a Manuel, propietario de Avant Services, un establecimiento de fotografia, fue posible conseguir algunas fotos de Ayacucho al inicio del siglo XX, ver los negativos, seleccionar las fotos y discutir sobre las mismas, nos permitio pasar un buen rato. En adicion, compartio con nosotros sus fotografias digitales con total generosidad.

Thanks to Manuel of Avant Services, a photographic business, we were able to find some photos of Ayacucho in the early 20th century; we looked at the negatives, selected a variety, with discussion of each, and printed them for our files. With much generosity, Manuel also gave us electronic copies of a number of his other photos.

En nuestro paseo de la manana un generoso ayacuchano que nos vio tomando fotos en la ciudad se acerco a nostros y nos regalo dos boletos para ver el Ballet Folclorico Huamanga Señorial. La presentación fue en el Centro cultural San Cristobal, una casona colonial cerca de la Plaza de Armas. El desempeño fue excelente , con música en vivo y diferentes piezas de danza de varias partes del Perú, muy vivas, exigentes físicamente y disfrutables.

During our morning walk a generous ayacuchano who saw us taking photos in the Plaza de Armas gave us tickets for the Ballet Folclorico Huamanga Señorial, which was held in the Cultural Centre San Cristobal, a colonial casona near the Plaza. This turned out to be an excellent performance, with live music support, of different dances from various parts of Peru, which was very enjoyable.

Pasamos parte de la tarde de ayer y mucho del día de hoy caminando alrededor de la ciudad, que mantiene mucho de la arquitectura colonial. La plaza es grande y verde y el centro de la ciudad cuenta con una amplia variedad de iglesias.

We spent yesterday evening and much of today walking around the city, which retains much of the colonial architecture of its past. The Plaza is large and green, and the city centre has a variety of churches.

Ayacucho es conocida como un centro de textiles, cerámicas, trabajo en cuero y retablos. Encontramos finos ejemplos de tejidos y tal como se muestra en la foto, muchas casas tienen estas cerámicas en el punto más alto de sus techos. Los Ayacuchanos se sienten muy orgullosos de sí mismos y de todas sus manifestaciones, fue un gusto estar aquí.

Ayachucho is known as a centre for textiles, ceramics, leatherwork and "retablos". We came across some fine examples of weaving, and noted that many houses have ceramic ???? topping their roofs. The Ayacuchanos feel very proud of their community and all of its manifestations; it was a pleasure to visit.
